About to get an offer for a new job but really enjoy working with my boss and my client. Performance reviews start next week and I don’t want to ask my client for feedback just to tell them I’m leaving the week after. Any advice on how to proceed with telling my client and boss?

You do not say anything until you have an offer and start date. If you do you will be telling them your focus is elsewhere. Be grateful for feedback, and then notify when you have a date.

Be honest, they’ll appreciate it

You’re taking it personal. It’s not! Just think about if we’re being fired, we’d most likely be out by eod, all access is cut within the day. Make the letter of resignation short and professional. That’s it. You don’t owe them anything. Do not send it out until you get the offer letter from the other company.

Why? Just do it

I have a terrible voice that fluctuates between sounding confident to flat toned and then using fillers while I’m thinking, i.e., uh um. Does anyone have tips to improve my communication skills so I sound more polished? Things that have worked for you? I feel I’ve performed poorly in interviews because I hem and haw too much. So annoyed with myself.

What do you do for winter shoes and commuting?

I walk a total ~20 mins in between train/bus stations and then getting from the stop in the loop to the office.

What do I do come wintertime for boots? Do you wear them while you're in the office? Or do you bring dress shoes with you to change in to? I wear a suit to work, so what boots would be good for winter but also look decent with a suit? This is my first winter in Chicago (a socal transplant)

I have accepted an offer for the role of Director of Data Science & Analytics and I'll be working with old colleagues. I am very excited. I haven't given notice yet because I am waiting for the background check to complete, but my boss just asked me about traveling to a meeting in November. I start at the new job Oct 25. I'm really struggling for how to respond. If I were not leaving it is absolutely a meeting I should be at. I don't want to respond with a lie. Any dvice on how to respond?

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.

Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??
