I work for a small agency and manage our internal marketing acct. We had very few processes in place when I started. I’ve since created, implemented, and trained our dept. on project mgmt for clients and am trying to convince the owner to apply those principles to our internal jobs. They are resistant because they just want the work to be done and don’t “want to keep spending money on internal jobs”. I’m confused because we’re doing the work either way and “spending” in labor/resources.

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.

I have a question. I work as an assistant manager been a manager for a while worked for the company for 6 years. I know crew gets paid a dollar less than me yet a do a lot ( its part of my job ) I asked for a raise I was told wait 3 months. Waited I asked again was told I needed to do this this and that. Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. When I’ve worked with service designers the output seems to be another version of a process map, are there other skills and experience needed? Even without LinkedIn, I see a lot of people younger than me in much better roles. They started off with relevant jobs right out of college. I graduated in 2009 when the economy tanked and worked in retail for years before I was finally able to land in corporate. Does anybody else struggle with this as well? I’m constantly comparing myself to others who are younger than me.
