How is the job market right now? Been trying to leave for an IA manager role, but haven’t had any luck. Not sure if it’s me or the market

I’m considering switching from IB to consulting, and I have a few questions:

- How bad are consulting hours? How often do you pull all-nighters and/or work weekends?
- How much do you hate your job/life on a daily basis?
- Compensation? (Entry level, 3 yrs, 5 yrs, etc? Salary/bonus?)
- How much networking do I need to do to get in (with prior IB experience)?
- Are any firms hiring entry level candidates right now? (I heard some firms just hired ALL their summer interns)
- Other thoughts?

My fiancé and I (ages 30 and 31) are about to buy a house. We would put down 10% for a 835k purchase price. Our combined income is $265k. We both have around 7-10k left in emergency funds (each) and combined about 200k for retirement. Our mortgage is $4,500 a month and we split a car payment for $800. Background: I’ve been in my position for 1 yr. I have 20 yrs military experience, bachelors in Business. I took an entry level $15/hour job to get my foot in the door. I’m actively looking for a promotion. But 44 miles plus gas & business casual clothing on $15/hour is killing me.

Due to obvious conditions my comp for the calendar year (salary+bonus) is back to 2017 levels although my overall sales are more than double and 1/3 less total comp than last year. It seems like comp opportunity is always decreasing during good times (I get it) but when it comes to adjusting during bad times, nothing was done. Is this normal for industry sales?
