Advertising is stressful. But I managed to give up the alcohol that served as medication for 3 months. It was great. I slept better. Lost weight. But I became a zombie of boringness. I then allowed myself 1 night a week to drink (instead of 7) and when I did, it unlocked so much feeling, passion, and creativity on those days. Do I have a point? I guess it is that alc is only bad if you can’t control it. If you can use it as an occasional muse, great.

Everyone is different, but I’ve seen the attitude of “just once a week” quickly turn into “ok maybe twice” and then “I’ve been good, 3-4 times is ok but no more” right back into old habits. Just keep an eye out on slippage.

Alcohol is cunning, baffling, and powerful. I too use it to be the solution for feeling more alive and/or escape from stress/shut down. You are right that alcohol doesn’t have a moral value but that it’s mentioned in a confession write up would make me pause and consider why am I justifying one drink

I cut it out and the depression that I've suffered from my entire adult life disappeared. I know it's different for everyone, for me cutting it out has done more than therapy and antidepressants ever have.

Same experience! Suffered needlessly for years under the delusion that Alcohol would help alleviate things.

I would gently suggest that people who have a healthy and normal relationship with alcohol do not have to set boundaries and schedules around when/what they drink.

People have to set boundaries around a lot of things including junk food, gaming, whatever. That doesn’t mean it’s not possible to practice moderation in anything.
