Advice needed: I have signed an offer at Amazon/Audible starting in October & completed onboarding. However, my background checks have not been completed even though I submitted them 2 weeks ago. I want to quit my current role or put in my 2 weeks as they don't have much billable work at the moment. The last thing I want is to be laid off from my current role when I was planning to leave anyway.

Been in this spot a couple times. When I worked with good people I’d work with again I tried to give as long a notice as possible. When I worked for a giant a$$hole and at a place where I knew I wouldn’t network with any of the folks I quiet quit and didn’t do anything for a month 🙂
Wait until the BC clears. Sometimes it takes a while and it could be for various reasons.
Unfortunately, would advise waiting it out until the background checks clear. You never know what could happen. If you don’t mind my asking, what role were you hired for? Interested in Audible as well
Is there something on your profile that will be flagged in background check? I have quit 2 roles before background check cleared and never had an issue.
It’s just a standard process to ensure you’ve a clean profile and you are who you say you are.
No pretty much plain vanilla. Received a speeding ticket in 2017 but outside of that I cannot think of anything.
My background check at EY took about a month or so. Id say that getting laid off would be the BEST case scenario as you would then also collect severance pay
EY1- What state do you reside in? I heard the delays are mostly because of local state governments being un responsive.
What would be the problem of you got laid off?
SM1- quiet quitting is what I have been doing. I'm actually winding down on a project. If the clearance doesn't come in time, it would mean I have to push back my start date. This would also mean that I would have to start networking and pretend I'm available to start my next engagement.
