I’d say yes if the 11 months is guaranteed...and then start immediately looking for the next gig as a precaution 2-3 months into Amazon.
Obviously more complex than how I’ve laid it out, but my initial perspective.
Now what I’ve heard from Amazon is they move pretty quick on work- so not sure if the WLB will improve (especially in a prove it temp role)...
Agreed. Since it sounds like he is willing to go unemployed if they don’t pick him up full-time, then I’d say go for it. Especially if he’s unhappy.
I’m not sure what the job market is in Dallas for his role, but for some of my friends it’s been a much more competitive job market overall.
Its a risk, but it sounds like youre ok helping him out if this doesnt turn into a full time role. The question then is, is he ok with that risk? You can assure him, but he needs to be ok with the risk because at the end of the day, its his career.
Not sure if Amazon wlb would be better but I think if anything Amazon would be a good thing to have on his resume and if he’s unhappy at his current role then he should give it a shot at Amazon.

I’m struggling to see how it’s a risk with your salary (with or without his new one). If he’s unhappy and you can cover him with your insurance why not!
General question: if he doesn’t get a perm job with Amazon, would he qualify for unemployment given covid?
But even just general unemployment. Before there were stricter rules around temp/contractors with unemployment but wasn’t sure if it’s easier to qualify now.

It’s been bothering me all day

I wouldn’t love for him to be unemployed but yes he would qualify for unemployment and I make enough for us to live on so it would be fine for a while. He understands the risk too and I’ve made double him for a long time so he’s fine with it. The Dallas job market is hot so I would think he would find something within a few months. I guess I wanted affirmation that having Amazon on your resume packs a punch and he’s not totally crazy for considering it.
A bit confused with the problem. The decision should be up to him. It's his career. If he is not happy with the current situation, then he should get out. Any jobs these days will have some risk. As his SO, you should support him and believe that he can make the right decision. 20k is not gonna make a huge different IMO.

Not a problem really, just wanted to hear some other viewpoints. Yeah it really isn’t about the money. More so if the benefits of working at Amazon and putting it on your resume outweigh the risk of a temporary arrangement that may or may not turn into permanent. I will support whatever decision he makes.
Is it a temp role because it's a one and done project, or a temp role because their department doesn't have enough budget for a headcount and this is their way of getting help to an overworked staff without adding a headcount?
We hire contractors all the time for the second reason. They usually just stay on permanently.

More of the latter. It isn’t a one-time project.
