Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

No such thing as entitled when it comes to jobs/promotions. You're worth what you can prove, or at least what you can argue for.
Ask for more, and explain why.
I started at the higher end and then after a year they started doing layoffs and could not offer me anything despite my having to do work in positions that people no longer held. I.e. I received no compensation or reward for the tough time at hand and the promotion comes after multiple tries every quarter thereafter.
Seems fair to ask for that, but a lot of other things factor in. When you started, were you at the high end of your role’s salary band? Promotion means you’re doing well so go for it. Worst thing is they’ll say nope but maybe that’ll push their first offer to 10k bump instead of 5-8.
Make a case and I wouldn’t use the word entitled. Also look at the cost of replacing you to the company.
If you had you gotten two years of the standard 3% cost of living increase, you’d be making slightly over 58k. Had you gotten 5% each year, you’d be at slightly over 60k.
So say you were at the higher end (5% yearly increases) - that would make a 15k now promotion a 15% bump. Totally aligned. If you were at the lower end (3% yearly increases) - that would make this a 20% promotion. Since you got kinda screwed with 0% instead, it looks like a 27% bump.
Ask for 70, settle on 67k.
