Just got an offer to upgrade my Amex Gold to Platinum with a 100k point bonus (spend $6k in 6 months). Is this worth it to upgrade to platinum? Would you do it

Currently 25 years old.
Goals:
* Own a home in a HCOL
* 2 kids (eventually)
* Retire at 50 on $125k/year.

Envelope math:
* $125k/year would require an investment portfolio of ~$3M.
* Targeting a $2M home (split with partner)
* 2 kids - $1M to raise both (including college fund, split with partner)
* $500K buffer for unexpected expenses
* 33% tax

Therefore, 6.5-7M retirement savings needed. To hit this (assuming 6% return after inflation), I’d need to save ~$110k/year.

How does this sound?

I NEED HELP WITH CREDIT SCORE issues: Two months ago my credit score went down by 30 to 40 points due to dad missing credit card payment by a day (i got added to as authorized user on his credit card for me to build credit but now I’m filled with regret). I was devastated by it. This past month I have been making more payments and paid off my aug statement in full thinking it will boost my credit score. But I don’t know why it went down another 10 points. More below:

Even if you have Real estate investments, if ppl can’t pay rent like with Corona, that’s not really helpful. Currently 25 y/o making 70k/year in Boston. I grew up pretty poor and I have minimal financial education. A lot of my salary now goes towards helping my parents get out of debt. My parents are no longer able to live on their own, so considering selling my grandmas house where they live (maybe 550k), paying off their mortgage (100k) and buying a duplex (between them they make about 55k/year). Is buying a two family home a good investment ? How much can I afford to spend on a new house?

Has anyone successfully “ported” their mortgage? Just learned about this and doing some research since rates are so high now. Current rate is 3% and new home will be more expensive, for context.

But you need a process to find ideas and manage positions. Two books you should read are “The New Trading for a Livinng” and “The Laws of Trading.” Both look at psychology, process, and risk in different ways that can help you work out your own process. The next 18 months will be much harder than the last 18 - time to start learning.

Is breaking into equity research/coverage teams as hard as breaking into traditional advisory/M&A IB being from a non target school with a non finance degree?

If you didn't have to pay off any more of your student loans what would you use the money for instead? I'm stuck between something impractical like a trip somewhere or something I need like a new car lol

Not mad that student loans being paused means I can use the money for Christmas. Are you still making payments during the pause? Or are you saving the money for something else. My christmas present to myself is a spa day!

I have a 25K loan from my MBA. I paid off 100k whole, after graduation. 3 years ago, I moved my loan from federal to private ( SOFI) account. I recently lost my job. I have applied for unemployment, as the severance that I received will only cover for 2 months. Together my husband and I used to make less than 250k after tax. Now, with a loss of pay , we are going to make less. Do you think I will be eligible for Loan forgiveness?
