^ What?? If you're there for a day anyways go exploring! Shinjuku is a good place to stay - easy train to and from Narita. Good food and night scene there too. Stop by the fish market too
Solid numbers. Enjoy your trip
Do yourself a favor and stay close to the airport. And now that SPG and Marriott are one program, you have more choices. Remember you are in a mileage run, not a tour. You may also play your "status" into turning around on the next flight stateside and avoiding a hotel altogether.
NRT or HND? If NRT, then what P1 said otherwise you can stay in the city and I'd recommend Westin.
Not spg but Andaz Tokyo is best hotel I've stayed at in the world.
P1 is right. Stay around NRT. Not worth the 2 hour commute and the $$ to the hotel and depending on how much time you have there, might be best to just chill out in the town of Narita (cute little old town).
OP, you missed the critical detail of "26" hours. I thought it was just the day or night. That actually just may be worth heading in to the city. Assuming you just have a backpack so not much hassle. If I were you, I'd book one of those capsule hotels, get some sushi action and visit some quirky spot. The circular train (can't remember the name) is fairly convenient to hit a whole bunch of neighborhoods in a few hours.
^agreed!! Also I've heard capsule hotels are pretty cool
D1 Cents per mile. At just north of 4 cpm, this is solid for a mileage run.
This is the last year you can do it on AA. Next year the EQD metric comes into play and all but eliminates the mileage run. The way I see it, a weekend of flying is worth preserving Exec Plat and thus continued upgrades.
Don't get a hotel. Explore all day and night and then sleep in a private karaoke room for 2-3 hrs.
NRT
Thanks all! Following the guidance and staying in Narita. Bummed there aren't any SPG / Marriotts in the area. Guess my IHG account is going to get some love.
OP, out of curiosity, can you give the details in the run, e.g. how many miles, cost, and time commitment? Am thinking of a run at the end of the year to get me to Delta Diamond.
I'm doing SFO-LAX-NRT-ORD started at 6am pacific today, return 3pm Central on Sunday. Was possible to return 3pm Central on Saturday, but figured I'd take a break and enjoy 26 hours in Japan. Total EQM = 12230. Total cost = $515
Always thought about a mileage run like this, but how would you evaluate if it's worth it?
