Getting out of tax early is a good plan if it's not what you want long term. That pay increase isn't great, but with not even a year's experience and pivoting out of tax, maybe that's expected? Would take a closer look and see if that pay is reasonable. I would at least negotiate for more.

One thing I will stress is to make sure you are going towards a job you want, not just running from a job you hate. If this is truly the field you want and you see career progression in the role/company, go for it.

It's a mid size-ish company. Not F500 but close.

Leaving at early stages is the best time so you won’t « waste » your time in a field you’re not interested into.

You’re not crazy - I’m in tax and it’s hard to switch out of tax. Wish I did audit or advisory

One year, remote, during the pandemic will hardly give you a full picture of what a career in tax will actually be like long term. However, if the new job prospect genuinely excites you, then by all means consider it. I think in this job market you should be able to do better than a 7-8% increase, but if you actually like it maybe it doesn’t matter.

smart

Great response SM1 and that suggestion of asking superiors to meet you in the office - love it. Exactly what I would if my team weren't in a different time zone. My group's SM moved away from his assigned office during the pandemic and doesn't want to drive in now. And he's essentially cut everyone else on the team off from travel because he doesn't desire it. Hope he retires soon, but pretty certain his successor lacks the confidence to make big changes that would improve the team's morale (or even the morale of said successor)

Why do you say so? Trying to understand your perspective as a Manager. Thx

Honestly do what makes you happy. Maybe you can try to do something else within Deloitte? Like consulting using data analytics? But it’s better to head out if you absolutely hate it there and can’t move within.

like

Well you kinda are out the door already. Might as well ask instead of closing that door.

Leave. Did two busy seasons, hated it and switched the first chance I got and never looked back. Found out I was making less than everyone else in my group at my level because I switched/came in later but even after that news, I reflected and realized how happy I was to not be stuck in another awful busy season. No need to stick it out if you’re unhappy and already have another job lined up. Get a head start on what will actually make you happy

like

Like many I’m sure, going through summer tax busy season was miserable and was what initially got me thinking about leaving… definitely would be okay with cruising until next August but don’t want to do another summer busy season 🙃

If you want advice or a referral out of tax, DM me! Happy to help

Leave. I just left audit for an analytics position at 3 yoe and I wish I could go back and do it at your yoe.

Work the new job for a year or two and then try and jump for analytics consulting

I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. Thinking about looking for a role on a project with J1 that’s not along my career path but will allow for me to do work with no calls so that I can manage both jobs. Hi-I have 120K in cash in HYSA. After keeping emergency fund aside. Still have 75-80K available that I plan to invest. After 401k, HSA, IRA and monthly expenses: we are left with 6K every month. So investing 12K every month in market. My worry is with that rate - it will take us 12-14 months to move the extra 75-80K mentioned above. However do not want to make a bulk move. Any advise how to plan the switch. At present have 60K invested in stocks. Thanks

Crazy ethics issue. Client 1 has VPO against man who later becomes Client 2. This is the 4th VPO this year, previous ones dismissed.

In the meantime, State has filed rape charges against man who becomes Client 2 and A/B charges against Client 1. Client 1 also files for divorce.

Clients reconcile (which is how they both end up clients...) and want VPO dismissed, divorce dismissed, and criminal charges dismissed.

DHS gets involved and want to remove the child from Client 1's custody. (1/2)

Hi all, I recently purchased a commercial property at WTC, Noida. As I look to grow my portfolio, I spoke to my consultant to see if I could get better prices. He worked with the sales folks at WTC and said that if multiple buyers come in, he could work out a deal. Wanted to check if anyone is interested? I could potentially get him to set up one-on-ones to help explain the commercial real estate market. Even if this property doesn’t seem interesting, I think an interaction wouldn’t hurt.. contd
