Amex Platinum is offering up to 150k sign up bonus points. I highly recommend, especially for those of you who can get work expenses and travel reimbursed out of your personal card. I covered my entire honey moon with points. Heh.

Amex Platinum is awesome. Hilton Amex (Diamond status) is also cool.

like

There’s totally a strategy to Hilton Amex. How shitty a room can I book and end-up with a bad ass ocean view suite? If you like gambling, it’s a great card. Every hotel booking is a gamble. I have been upgraded every time but once. The real question is: How big will the upgrade be?

The other thing about Hilton is that, while it doesn’t have as many high-end luxury properties as Marriott (at least I don’t think it does based on a guesstimate), they have been building out their luxury properties and it’s way better than it used to be. Waldorf and Conrads have been expanded significantly as their flagship luxury lines, but the Curio suites are also usually very good bang for the buck too.

So, Hilton - with Diamond - is totally worth it compared to Marriott with lesser status. In my mind, it is not actually particularly close. And you rack up points so damned quick when you book a Hilton hotel with that Hilton Amex. Because you get both card points and Diamond points. It’s a bonanza of points every time.

I’ve had the platinum card for a few years and just chatted them yesterday to say I was considering closing and ask for a retention bonus. $55k points for a $4k spend over 3 months—awesome and so easy!

I wasn’t complaining. I was making a joke (which I knew was imprecise in its value calculations). I don’t find you insufferable. I am saying, Us lawyers - as a group - we’ve got to be insufferable to deal with. Or so I am frequently told by the civilians in my life. Our shared inclination toward precision drives people nuts.
