Alvarez & Marsal A&M’s total comp seems much higher than the industry average, is there a catch? Are there any benefits (like the subsidies B4 like to throw at people) etc? Alvarez & Marsal

Haven’t had any downsides even my base is higher at A&M than b4, went from s1 FDD at EY to associate at A&M and have no downsides

likesmart

My bad, meant decline in base for Managers and above. Not decline in TC.

PEPI here, I personally think WLB is miserable and culture is non-existent. Literally counting my paychecks until I feel I’ve capped enough to leave. Average tenure is 2.5y and I’m right about there… there are some upsides, “unlimited” PTO (but that works directly against your TC), average billing is high (avg 45-50h/wk), standard rate cards are high… so all around I took more than the average 3 wks off and still expect to round out the year ~350K TC

likeuplifting

A&M 3 - I get that. Just curious if you’re thinking about exit ops or what?

like

People say culture is bad - but by far i really like the people and the culture too. No asshole policy is quite true (im in pepi)

like

The no asshole rule is not ubiquitous. Some of the prime assholes are at senior levels, excused because they bring in $.

like

I just signed my full time offer, thanks y’all!

Thank you A&M9!

Catch is your bonus is 0% guaranteed. You are only guaranteed your base. If for some reason you aren’t being staffed, your comp will suffer significantly.

like

I prefer having my TC upside unlimited vs. capped, but it’s really whatever you are comfortable with. Keep in mind, bonus % of base meaningfully increases at each level. While an SA can get a 100% bonus, it’s almost impossible for them to hit 200%, whereas it is achievable at the D and SD level.

Does anyone know how much are people traveling at A&M in PEPI CFO Services?

likesmart

Curious to know as well!

I do think the slower timeline for promotion (as we promote when the individual is ready, rather than a strict timeline) can maybe be the catch - but we don’t have a up or out policy so that’s also nice

like

Both audit and FDD

like

The downside is an upside. If you got no wlb at least you get compensated for it.

likesmartfunny

catch is the golden handcuffs. You won’t be able to leave for better pay if you hate the work/wlb

like

On exit opportunities, there won’t be a material difference since you already have B4 on your resume. You can just bank more money in the meantime until you are ready to jump to that exit opportunity. Most exits from B4 M&A result in a lower comp anyway, unless you do I-banking.

like

You also don’t have an offshore team, which for some people isn’t a big deal but I like having an offshore team to do the rly tedious tasks personally

like

Again, this was clearly stated as a personal preference you don’t need to take it as a personal attack lol

I have yet to experience any downsides. Benefits are just as good. I think the training has been very relevant. Happy hours. It’s been all great. Even better than I had expected tbh

Thoughts on disputes and investigations at A&M?

likesmart

Top tier in their sector. Maybe even No. 1 from what I’ve heard. Same comp model as the other groups so probably similar pros and cons. That line of work is pretty niche though so I think the amount of work available, and therefore the billables/bonus potential, is less or at least less consistent. On the bright side, A&M comp model should mean that the lower pay coincides with better hours

like

Truth is, there isn’t much of a catch - FDD at B4 pays less because they’re part of a larger entity that has overall lower margin segments like audit and open that they need to subsidize. Culture and WLB is more office dependent

like

Does anyone here have info on HIG then? I’ve considered going there for A&M but I think only NACR and PEPI have the best comp with the rest being average

like

A&M 8 that’s pretty good. YOE?

I saw some sales managers discussing hiring strategies, especially for entry level roles (e.g. SDR, BDR).

One strategy that came up was having the applicant do 90 minutes of cold calling into real prospects with the hiring manager coaching.

What do you think of this approach? Would be curious to hear from both hiring manager perspectives and from candidate perspectives.

Hey y'all, kind of a two part question:
1. I enjoy the people management more than individual contributor stuff. What career paths do you see in our industry for people who are managing support engineering teams?
2. What certifications are valued today? Seems like being a AWS Cloud Practitioner is a good general one, but are there others that stand out?
