I have worked with Forbes top companies, for-profits, non-profits, & startups. I consider myself a solver of complex & complicated problems requiring mixed method research & novel solutions. Just wanted to share a tip for all of those who are looking to connect with former employees - there is a filter function at Linkedin which allows you to do so (and you can combine that with the filter on location - then you can almost always find at least 2-3 people you can reach out to and ask about the firm and practice group you are thinking of lateralling).

Any thoughts on Fox in Chicago? Received an offer to lateral there and was curious on the firm’s city-wide image as well as national reputation.

A firm approached me with an offer because I had worked with some partners who recently joined. They said it’s not really a “practice” of the firm to guarantee the bonus and that they want to properly incentivize people to hit hours… but I now have data from current associates and ones who had offers (including recently this past month) who received guarantees — nothing exceptional about their circumstances either.

How do I respectfully present that data in a counteroffer?

Considering a move from a larger BigLaw firm to Fox Rothschild, primarily to work on matters I’m more interested in, but hopefully to also have a slightly better work life balance. I know it would be a pay cut though, and their various covid cuts have me concerned as well.

Any insight from current or former associates? What is firm culture like? Is work life balance decent enough to justify a lower salary?

I want to switch markets transfer to my current firm’s office in that city. But lateral market is hot and bonuses are generous. Anybody heard of your current firm matching competing lateral bonuses so that they can keep you as an internal lateral? Or will firms match lateral bonus offers even if you aren’t moving cities in an attempt to keep you at the firm?
