So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Severance
I refuse to present sub par ideas but our cco has shown they just/only want to make money. It goes against my nature to slack but the market is bad. Any insights helpful...
Gotta' find the right time. I've known a couple of people who've pulled it off. Wait 'till the company's hurting, accounts lost, new ones not coming-in fast enough, layoffs looming. Then offer to take a package to leave-they'll probably take you up on it-package out someone that wants to leave rather that lay off good people that don't. But once you put that out there, there's pretty much no taking it back. Timing and situation need to be just right.
@CSO I completely disagree with you. I know plenty of great, talented people who got laid off when accounts were lost in spite of a years history of adding great value to the agency through their work and awards. And they would’ve continued to do that in the future. Sometimes, especially if you are more senior, there just isn’t a place and sometimes the account may not have been the best fit ultimately. It’s could be about not bringing value to a specific account, not agency.
Just get a job here. One or the other will happen.
My comment was simply honest advice; 0% snark. Here’s more: Why try to get fired or laid off? How much severance do you expect to get? Unless you have a contract, there is no guarantee regarding the terms. If you negotiate compensation for your next job as a step up from your current one, you’ll do much better than whatever you hope to pocket from the potential severance package. OK, here is something you may interpret as snark but it is meant as straight talk: you’ll be happier if you take control instead of feeling like a victim.
Move to an account that’s likely to be put up for review
How about looking for a new job?
Agreed. Look for a new job. You can wait until you are laid off or fired, but in the meantime you will probably just stagnate. Keep in mind that being laid off is a typically a strike against you in future interviews...people get laid off for a reason and lack of work is only part of it. In the worst lay-off scenarios the best are retained. If you get laid off it is not just about how busy the agency is, but a perception of your value to the future
Come in late, leave early
What’s the difference of laid off vs fired?
Yes, move to an account that’s up for review. Or go to an account with a difficult client, drag them down to rock bottom with mediocre work. That should do it.
@cso thanks for the feedback. I’ve never been laid off and have survived many. They know I work hard. That’s why in the beginning of the post I said it’s against my nature. @cco’s snarky comment about looking for a new job is just plain snarky - of course I’m looking. Why wouldn’t I be? If this is how a company treats you for wanting to do actual good work then yes might as well look AND take that severance. I think if this is your one lay off in your entire ad life, people won’t see it as a red flag. Most likely l will find a job in meantime and still get that severance, this has happened to a few colleagues. @cco is doing what most cco’s do, make a snarky cut down without thinking. @sad1 I think you’ve got the best advice here.
Yeah but being a victim would be like “wah wah what can I do?” I’m doing side film projects that are winning creative awards and building my book that way while interviewing. Yes I have a contract. It’s not 50k or anything but money is money. Why not make money as you leave.
Seriously, why not just leave? Why subject yourself to a messed up agency that goes against your nature? Unless you like being pissed off all the time
