Any advice?

I am an immigration attorney with 4 years of experience. I recently applied to an immigration lit position at the U.S. Attorney's Office nearest me. I have networked my way "in" since applying, and at least 3 AUSAs have said they are willing to put in a good word for me. I think I have a decent shot, but it has been 4 weeks since I applied and have not heard anything. Also, the partner where I am wants to replace me with an associate with 2x my experience, so I am short on time.

Keep applying it's not the ending the best to you 💯 ✨️

I would apply to different offices in the mean time. Government positions are notoriously slow

Too risk

I’m government. I got in on first try but my buddy applies 6x over 2-3 years, and he’s a law professor now (I.e. he is highly competent)

Is the posting still up?

I had an internship at a federal agency and when I was discussing long-term prospects with the higher ups I was told:

1. They’d let me know when the post goes up and they’d put in a good word for me to help me land an interview but I was on my own after that.

2. Federal job postings have to remain open for a certain period of time. From this I understood that they wouldn’t start interviewing people before the resume collecting period ended, but admittedly i’m speculating.

Hope that helps with the anxiety, but as others have said. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. While you’re waiting to hear back, keep applying to anything and everything that looks interesting even if for no other reason than to keep your interviewing skills sharp.

It took me 6 +months to get hired at a federal office and at one stage in the process, it took them almost 2 months to get back to me. I thought maybe I was their secondary pick but no, they just didn’t get to reviewing the applications. HR was also notoriously bad at my agency.
