Any 🐠 living in a different state than their "home" office? Would like to hear about your experiences around traveling to the office for firm events or having local clients (pre-COVID) or even now if you have started travelling again. TIA!

F - also wondering if it’s difficult to file taxes? Any complications?

like

For tax purposes, you have to pay taxes based on the state you are physically working in. I.e., office in NYC but live and work remotely in PA. You are required to pay state income taxes to PA, not NY. It's doubtful any state will do an audit, though.

I live in Maryland but home office is in Virginia which isn’t the point of your post I assume.

That being said, my director lives three states away from her home office and just alt traveled to the home office when needed, then picked up the flight home on her tab.

It’s doable, you have to explain that you cannot be a local resource, or just aim for travel only projects

My previous manager would track us by hours daily, made a fuss everytime anything stretched and guilt us for that and the unplanned leave too unless it was COVID. Hinted him a lot of time, this is problematic but apparently he considered it "standard practice for agile".

Now 8/10 teammates have switched within < 1 year of project start (6-7 months with him) which tbh had good work in our opinion and even team was fun to work with even though none of us ever met in person.

Hello, hoping for some input on how to time a job change. At a startup - we are doing well now but unless we have complete turnover in management I don’t think we have a bright future post-COVID. I could coast here 1-2 years before having to look. I’ve been here for a little under a year. This is my second in house job after 10 years at the same firm. The market is hot now, probably won’t be in 1-2 years and I am getting interest for good roles. OTOH I don’t want to look like a job hopper.
