More worried about what 80s advertising did to me. Commercials were a pie chart of junk food, gendered toys, gendered cleaning products, cigarettes, and unrealistic body types...

Yes and I won’t work on a brand that I can’t feel good about for those reasons. Fortunately, I work at an agency that specializes in travel and tourism, education, and other industries that don’t make me feel crappy. I recognize that’s not always an option for everyone, but have been determined to stick to my values in this industry and so far it’s worked out
My son keeps talking about this HORRIBLE ad on Nick Jr. for a doll called Boxy Girls that comes with brown boxes/packages that you then get to open and discover purses, shoes, etc. Its like shopkins but even more materialistic. What in the ACTUAL FUCK is this shit?!?
Like SC1, I work for an agency specializing in travel and tourism, so that definitely makes it easier.
My kids are too busy watching YouTube and skipping over the ads.
My kid so rarely see commercials she is confused when she happens upon one.
Hahahaha the Boxy Girls are also creepy-looking. Material girls for the Robot Master!
I talk to my child a LOT about how advertising works. About what people trying to sell stuff do to get people to buy stuff. So she is pretty aware for an elementary school kid. And she thinks the Boxy Girls are creepy too
My kids have been judging ads, TV and movies since they were 7-8 because "they get it from their mama*, from the music to bad acting. My oldest was excited as a youngin to tell his friends how they make blood in the movies...he now works in post-production and SFX. Teach the kids, engage the kids in discussion on content creation and they will be ok when absorbing any media. Main lesson, it's not real life
