My cleaning lady and my 6 yr. old told me I work too much on the same day. Ha!
Toddlers are hard because they’re young and don’t get why we want to or have to work. I just kept the same speech going for the past few years, “You go out in the world every day to learn. Everyone does, even you. Mom goes to work to learn and help and have fun and to make money to pay for Netflix.”
She loves Netflix so it works.
I try to take some PTO either right before or right after a work trip to spend time with my toddler. Helps me feel like I’m making up for the time away.
my 11 and 8 year old felt that way when I went to Nashville for work. I try to make up for it with little ways to remind them that I love them like a note folded in their pjs etc
FaceTime is great - and once they get older they get it. I brought my son on a trip recently and looked into the hotel child care service. A tad pricey but worth it...though my schedule wasn't insanely busy so if that's not your story then doesn't work I know.
Feeling the guilt. Working late yesterday and my husband calls to see when I’ll be home. My toddler is on the other end saying “I see mommy. I love you”. And then gets upset when she has to say goodbye. Heartbreaking. The only thing that makes me feel better is trying to remember what I thought of as a kid - I didn’t really wonder where my parents were ever or what they did. I was more consumed with what I was doing. Helpful maybe?
My 2 year old said “I don’t want you to work” when dropping me off at work yesterday morning 😭
Ugh all the feels. I so get this 😢
I always bring my kids a small toy or souvenir from my travels. Toys > mom. They’re like when are you leaving?
My toddler now consistently asks “mommy are you coming back?” Every time I go on a work trip or even leave for a normal work day, and a little piece of me dies inside. I now bring a surprise from every trip or even randomly after a normal day, and that helps a bit. Even if the surprise is a small piece of candy. It still kills me though. I like GCD1’s idea if taking pto right around a trip. I have two even this week 😞
I’m gonna be on a shoot around the world (opposite time zones) for prob at least 2 weeks— having a ton of anxiety about it.
