Child-to-teacher ratio. The single most important question, especially for the youngest babies who need a lot of individual attention. Every state has its own mandated ratios; find a daycare that outdoes them.
1. do they have an app? ours does and it makes managing communication super easy, and we get photos and updates throughout the day which makes it so much easier
2. Ask about developmental milestones and activities for your child’s age- will give you an idea of if their style matches yours
3. meet the teachers!
4. location- is it convenient to get to from work or home? your going to have to inevitably do last minute pickups if bebe ever gets sick, so you want to be nearby. my daycare also had a breastfeeding room (precovid) which I used at lunch
1)Do they allow you to drop by unannounced whenever you want? Not that you would, but there’s a level of transparency that is there. It also allows you to possibly swing by to breastfeed if possible
2)Ask for the schedule to see what activities/ time of naps etc so you can try to get kiddo on a similar schedule before too
3) Child to teacher ratio
4) How do they handle discipline?
5) how often do they sanitize toy
6) how do they handle potty training
7) what’s the sick policy and what’s the protocol they do if a kid u is a sick or injured
8) how long have staff been there
9) are they licensed? (And look it up to see if there are violations)
10) what’s the holiday/vacation policy
11) what food is provided/where will milk be stored (if you plan to do BLW, are they on board with that?)
12) is there any screen time
13) how are updates given/communication
Are you looking at in-home daycares or a center?
Thanks for the insight! I didn’t know too much before but this is helpful. Sounds like a great place!
Ask other parents for their experiences at the daycare.
