Anybody think their company does a good job of rewarding people based on merit? What does your company do to evaluate people’s contributions? Do you know what you need to do to progress your career?

Chicago’s a great city but how do you justify living there w/ all of those unreasonable taxes? Some are so ridiculous. Soft drink tax, tire fee, amusement tax(includes Netflix and Spotify) like wtf?

Lately, there has been a lot of “shopping around” by business units for the legal advice they want to hear. One has now gone over my head twice to the GC to get a legal “okay” that I advised against. “Tattling” on me first saying “no.” These power plays are really frustrating. We have a culture of “getting the client to YES,” but it’s hard for me to do that when I know the “yes” will bring certain liability to us. Is there an effective strategy to succeeding in this type of atmosphere?

Why has real estate remained lucrative?
Mainly agents but also developers.

The barrier to entry is low, not even sure if graduating high school is needed. My old agent even said she did it bc she can make a lot money and not work that much. She drove a new Mercedes and sent her kids to private school, husband was also an agent.

So I’m curious why it didn’t get flooded and the profit margin dampened to a $/hr closer to other jobs with similarly easy entry?
