IC vs Manager. Are there major pay differences between the two? Right now, I have been offered a Principal Data Architect role which is the same pay as the Sr Mgr. I would be moving from a people manager to more of an IC role. Which is better for long term growth? Do you have to move to people management to move far in a company? I feel like at a start up it is better to be an IC due to the chaos of managing expectations at a startup. Hiring in a smaller startup is close to impossible.

I get an email today, from a Googler, an invite to apply for a position. I did not accept or decline yet and I don’t have any details. I did look up the person who sent me the invite, the person is a regional lead.

Any ideas what this could be? I’m a bit nervous and don’t know if I should reach out to my recruiter to ask her?

If you get a job offer, and they agreed to the number you asked for in terms of base pay…should you still try to negotiate to get more? It seemed almost too good to be true when they said yes without hesitation.
