It really depends on where in the city you live and where in Princeton you need to go. I’m fortunate enough to live in Fishtown and be very close to I-95 access so I drive. My commute takes me 35 minutes on a good day and about 1 hour + on a bad day. But I spend very little time on roads other than the highway.
Figure you’re likely adding 20 minutes + if you’re coming from the west side of Philly. And a greater likelihood of more serious delays. Same goes for if you have to get into Princeton proper or up Route 1 to Carnegie center (where a lot of firms have offices).
If you were going to take the train, I probably wouldn’t take Amtrak because of the cost and the similar alternatives offered by SEPTA/NJ Transit from Philly. This also depends on if you’re going to Princeton proper or somewhere else. You’d have to figure out how to get from the Princeton area train stations to the office.
Also depends upon your job. If you can get done in a reasonable time, it shouldn’t be too bad of a commute
I commuted from Phila area to Princeton area for about 7 years. I went up I-95. Expect bottlenecks and heavy volume. It would take me about an hour. Expect more if you then go on Route 1. If you’re only going in 2 days a week see if you can stagger your start time to avoid rush hour.
