Anyone currently in a PM role that "fell into it" with no technical or industry background? I'm feeling a lot of limitations because I don't have software experience but PM-ing a software dev project because I don't fully know the nuance of what i can expect from my workstreams. Want to know if everyone here comes from the work you're managing or how you navigate new industries or projects. Thanks!

Hi, I am in your boat and have been for 17 years. I'm not an engineer and I cannot code. But I've learned to read code to debug and analyze. I took a course in SAP SD and my IT career took off. These days you have a cheat GenAI at your disposal. Ask questions, a lot of them. Leard SDLC methodology, learn Scrum method and Agile practices. Hear the lingo and jargon and use ChatGPT to disect it for you. Stay informed on trends and techniques. Copilot is great for notes and meeting minutes.
If you're running an agile process, your engineers are in charge so learn from them.
Let me know if you need further details.
