Meds meds meds, I love my job too much to let my allergies stop me from doing it
I wish they still worked but they're slowly becoming less and less effective :(
I've heard of some people using respirator masks when working with cats, might be something to look into
Hmmm that's an interesting one I'll look more into it thank you!
How severe are your allergies? depending on that the solution may range from some simple prevention methods to having to do a career switch
Found this article that you might find useful: https://be.chewy.com/im-a-cat-veterinarian-whos-allergic-to-cats-heres-how-i-deal-and-so-can-you/
Thank you for sharing, that's a great article!!
If it's too severe and meds aren't doing the trick you might have to consider opting out of treating cats. It's unfortunate if you do enjoy working with them but you also gotta prioritize your own well-being
I have allergies, and I manage them by taking medication and using an inhaler when necessary. I always carry my medication with me, and I make sure to take breaks when needed to use my inhaler.
I do have allergies, and I manage them by carrying an EpiPen and Benadryl with me at all times. I also try to avoid any triggers, but there's a special breed of cat that is the worst for me. If I start feeling symptomatic, I'll take medication and/or rest until the symptoms go away.
I don't have allergies, and I can't imagine how people manage them on the job. It would be really tough to concentrate with all of the sniffing and sneezing going on.
SOOOO bad. Yes, I spent two years taking allergy shots (immunotherapy) and the allergy hasn't gone away, though it has become a bit more manageable. Some days are really miserable and I don't really know if I'll be able to keep working in this job much longer. It makes me sad because I love cats so much.
Allergies are weird, some people find them getting better over time and some find them getting worse. My nickel allergy has gotten much worse in recent years but my cat allergy seems to be a bit better than it used to. Make sure you keep allergy meds available for an emergency is all, because you never know what could happen.
My allergies flare up a few times a year, and it can be really awful for a few days, but it just goes with the job. A lot of people ask why I work with animals when I'm allergic but it's a quality of life thing, they make me happy and as long as I keep all my appointments with my allergist it's not anything I'm unable to manage.
