Thanks for sharing. I don’t really have any advice since I’m still fairly new in my career but I definitely feel the same way. And in a way, I do feel trapped and not sure how to pivot out of consulting
My experience is that being a cyber consultant (9 YOE) gives you the free rein to define how you wanna craft your brand.
You wanna stick with the partner track? Then you will be a generalist, more likely than not. But if a certain area of cyber piques your interest, you leverage the core consulting skills that can allow you to work towards your goal.
Ultimately, it does take deliberate planning and efforts to figure out where you wanna go, but a good consultant in my opinion has the ability to do what they want, career wise. But it does require ambition and willingness to push yourself accordingly.
This is me. I am desperate to pivot out of Consulting and I have some experience in risk assessment and GRC, but the nature of consulting has made it such that, I’m not in a role long enough to get sufficient expertise. So even though I have a CISSP, can’t seem to get an experienced role
Been in cyber consulting 4 years out of college and I feel very similar way. Hardly any hard skills
