Honestly the only way to get a raise these days is to get a new job
My partner and I have been doing a thing since we started where each year we set (very achievable) goals and agree that it if we hit them we get a raise at the next review in a year’s time. Then repeat every year. We have gotten a raise every year for 12 years.
It’s very simple, don’t need a case, it’s in writing. Best career/pay advice I ever received.
@OP not really. If I do I work with them to write a different one.
@SC1 that’s the point, keep up.
I think a lot of it comes down to timing as well. Winning new business pitches, important people resigning, positive outlook for the agency…wait for the right times. It’s very easy for the agency to say no if you ask at the wrong time
I've negotiated raises several times and here's what worked for me:
- expressing appreciation for the opportunities given
- quantifying how my contributions impacted the agency as a whole (did a 1 pager and had my talking points)
- doing industry research on what my position earns elsewhere
- took a future-forward slant and focused on what gap I wanted to fill for the agency moving forward.
I've also been offered a raise and countered (respectfully), asking for more, and while I didn't get all I wanted, I got more. All this to say, go for it! You may not get it (or may just get some) but it doesn't hurt to ask. I had an agency owner say I demonstrated leadership by negotiating. Good luck!
One sure way to go about it is to get a hold of an industry related salary survey, find your exact position or its equivalent and utilise that to state your case. Hope this is helpful🤩
It’s not my sheet idk man look it up and check. If you feel it’s old or doesn’t apply (though pretty certain it will because the thing is less than 5 years old) then just pad the numbers a bit.
Struggling to ask a raise too haha

Recently, like on a cosmic scale?
I pulled the lever on the side of my chair and lifted up.
I’ve been fortunate to not need to ask for one in my career. My work has spoke for itself and companies rewarded it.
But I have had luck with raises after letting companies know I’m either considering leaving or going to leave. Those have been the most substantial raises.
