Make a point to have dedicated time with the 2.5 year old, where the other parent holds down the fort with the new kid on the block.
Listen to your gut and communicate with the other parent if possible, every child is different and has different needs you know best what yours needs. My first slept through the night after 2 weeks, my 2nd took almost a year. We tried many things but at the end of the day he did not care about all these cool children book tips. He wanted two feedings at night.
This may sound insensitive but we hired a nanny. We both work and can justify the expense for now but we were in that boat a few years back and are now expecting our 4th. That makes 4 kids under 6…. Haha it’s a challenge, but we are open in our communication with each other and our nanny. And my wife and I both recognize that things get tense and sometimes heated in the moment, especially with meltdowns from the girls and so much going on. So we let it go, don’t hold a grudge, apologize to each other and move on.
That said, I’ve also let my teams know that between 6-8 I am full steam on that bedtime routine just like the comment above mentioned. Dinners, baths, making lunches, brushing teeth, last time potty, books, our round-Robin “thankful for’s” then songs, lights out, and lastly I get to breathe and start on our dinner before crashing or opening the laptop back up. It’s absolutely a grind and not for the weary, but the little moments make it worth it.
I know at PwC we have access to a free Sittercity membership and it’s been useful to find specific care. Similar ones exist (urban sitter, sitter tree, etc.) so worth giving it a shot. Other than that, good luck
Are both you and your partner working full-time and from home?
It's all about hammering down a routine. Once you've got that down, the rest will fall in place. I know what you're going through, man. Juggling two little ones and a career can be insanely challenging.
