Anyone here at a company that is already laying people off? Or gotten laid off themselves?

Does anyone think it’s weird that my firm is bending over backwards to try to keep a first year staff from leaving the firm after she was rated a 2 this year. But now she’s trying to leave and they keep trying to push her to stay saying she can be a partner in 8-9 years and laying it all out in detail. The issue is they laid off other staff (all but her) so maybe that’s it? Find it very odd.

When you say your salary jumped __x, how is that exactly calculated?

Mine was $16k (minimum wage before joining corporate) > $40k (contractor total before getting laid off) > $150k (current FT)?

Is that a 260% jump or 2.6x from $16k to $40k?
And a 375% jump or 3.75x from $40k to $150k?

Or do I calculate it by hourly rate?

The week of my wedding, my husband (PL SQL Developer 4 yoe) was laid off. That was a couple of weeks ago. So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
