Anyone know or have speculations as to the hourly billable rate for Media Law partners at Davis Wright Tremaine?

I need some advice, I’ve been in a newly created role within a pharma agency for about three months now and it is not going too well. There is little to no structure or direction from senior leadership, no access to client data, little to no billable work. Worst of all, no project is related to what I have been hired to do.

I would like to move on with a different agency asap, but I’m not sure how to proceed with such a short time here.

My work flow is extremely slow & Idk what to do about it.
1st year lit associate at satellite office in v20. My office lost 20 attorneys since I started last September. Ive had less than 25 hours of billable work per week since March. Ive asked for more work to a partner in charge of lit work, but never heard back. Ive asked other partners for work & get biz dev projects. Asked other associates & was told everyone in office is slow, but now I'm hearing some ppl have work & am nervous. Advice?

ID Associates…how the hell do you reach your billable requirements? Just started at an ID firm and am lost as to how it’s possible when there is so much daily grind type work that you cannot bill for. Someone enlighten me.

I am currently a gov attorney at a major metro area in the northeast. I recently received an offer from a ID private firm (1900 billable hours) in the area for about 40k more than my currently salary. I was going to accept, but now I’m having second thoughts about leaving a secure gov job with good benefits. Really not sure what to do.

PPMD how do u know that a client has budget so that you can position billable work ?

I just found out my billable rate, can I use this in negotiations for a higher salary? It’s almost 5 times my hourly rate.

New Orleans attorneys: my firm is trying to gather data on billable requirements, rates, and salaries because it’s been experiencing crazy turnover lately. If you’re comfortable, it would be helpful if those in New Orleans or similar markets can share this information. I’ll go first: 1. Firm’s primary practice: insurance defense; 2. Firm size: 25-50 attorneys; 3. Billable requirement: 1950 annual; 4. Salary range for 1-5 year associates: 70k-100k; 5. Salary for 5-8 year associates: 100k-125k.

What's your A/R per month or per quarter? Please list area of law and years of practice. So many posts about billable hours but at the end of the day, isn't it all about the dollar dollar bills y'all?

How many billable hours do people in prosecution tend to average each month? I’ve gone through waves of feeling like my billable hours requirement is reasonable to feeling like I’m drowning and can’t possibly do it for that long.

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?

Imagine a person lateraling into Big Law who has never had to do the billable hours previously. 1) What would be your best piece of advice? 2) What do you wish someone would have told you about billing when you started? 3) Is there maybe a book for someone entering the minefield on billing effectively and capturing time effectively? A question for the associates:
How should I talk to a new associate on my team (4 mos.) about critical issues including 1) spending too much time on a single project; 2) not meeting expectations in terms of number of billable hours; 3) botching easy procedural issues? This person has significant skills and writes very well. But their work is consistently turned in at the last minute, they have to be corrected on procedures regularly, and they never come talk to me without an invitation.

Goddamn, I don't want to compromise my integrity but my engagement manager and my manager are pressuring me to eat billable hours because we're over budget and we don't want to anger the client. Fts.

How much and how often do you fib your billable hours? Either taking off time to help the budget, or adding time to meet your needs….

Is there any point in charging time to GAA (general and administration) if you've already hit 8 or more hours of client billable time for that day (e.g 8 for project + 2 for meetings/internal stuff).

If you don’t have 8 hours of billable time a day, do you leave as is or do you fill in the gap with non-billable work? While I am in the office, I don’t always get the billable amount since I don’t have enough work. Seems like a waste of time to enter non-billable time just to fill in the gap but I also don’t want them to think I am not there and slacking off.

I recently got a new job that came with a 30% hike in salary and I was thrilled. However, now that I’m here, I can’t help but feel… bored. I don’t have as many responsibilities as I thought I would. Is it weird to ask for more work? Will it seem like I’m just trying to suck up to my boss since I’m still relatively new?
