I live in Redwood City, which is definitely not Palo Alto but reasonably close. It really depends what lifestyle you want. It’s an expensive city with good schools and good restaurants. If you want suburban life and have a lot of money, you can have a good lifestyle there. But I can’t say it’s dramatically different than living in any other part of the peninsula, unless you really value proximity to Stanford or something else in the immediate area of Palo Alto.
Palo Alto is a nice suburban city with good job opportunities, schools, and restaurants, but personally, I don't think it's that amazing and it really depends on what your lifestyle is. If you want to live in a city where it's mellow and nice and you're surrounded by upper middle class, educated people, then it's the spot for you. Life is pretty stable and quiet which is nice for families.
Palo Alto is also not really a huge night life location in terms of clubs and bars, but they do have a few options in downtown if you are looking for something to do. There are a lot of young people there, so you'll find a community there.
Thanks. I think now I get it. What you described sounds like my wife’s dream life. I hardly ever went to that area. We live in San Leandro.
It’s nice here, very quiet. Like PMM1 said, it’s like the feel of anywhere in the Peninsula. Definitely a dream type of place to live in but if you can’t stretch your resources to fit, maybe you could drive down often and it will wear off.
