Is it really that difficult to get hired for a federal job? I was interviewed for a GS12 job but never heard back, they still didn’t hire anyone and I didn’t get a rejection. I applied for another GS07 job, was accepted, I took it, but I believe I can do better. I have a master’s and have extra graduate research experience. I am still applying to new jobs but I was told it is impossible to move up the grade level now. Everyone is telling me to stick with the government. What are your thoughts?

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? My partner got a City of Toronto offer. Salary band is 104-121k. HR asked for his expectations and he said 115k. HR came back with a 106k offer stating nobody on the team makes that much so they cant offer it. Also said she is unsure if there is any wiggle room if any at all. I’ve looked at everyone on the team with the same titles salary on the sunshine list and the lowest I see is 121k. I assume there is an OT component of some sort but also can’t confirm. Thoughts? /negotiating advice?

Does where you get your masters degree matter? I’m in an online environmental science masters program at an expensive “name-brand” school, but have colleagues telling me I should transfer to a less expensive program to save $ because no one cares about where your degree is from. I work for NYS, I have been able to get interviews for the next step up position, I'm currently an 18, I would like to move to a 23. What are good interview strategies to use when looking for a promotion.

My supervisor gave me 8hours of AWOL because I couldn't show up one day because I was under anxiety. I have gave him letters from psychiatrist,psychologist that I'm passing through this. He didn't care and gave me an AWOL. I want to leave my job because my department is very toxic but I don't want to leave having that on my records.
If I move to another job later on (private or federal) this 8 hours of AWOL will show up?
