Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).
Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.
Thanks for the help!

Watch out for these types of requests. Ex-consultants that are currently working at Google are extremely snooty on this app. They enjoy looking at the app from time to time to see us suffer but barely offers anything back.
I’d say take your search over on LinkedIn or just form real-life connections who work at Google and is willing to refer based on the formed bond.
After being in consulting now: so right, that's why I'm focusing on a change now, I need to apply the skills from my phd and analytics and working with tech ppl again
Understood, never asked for a referral before, but always willing to pay it forward. Thanks for the heads up

Let me give some context: usually when you refer ppl at google you need to mention how well you know them and their work. An unknown referral usually is as good as applying on the website.
I also encourage you to do some research on google roles. Data roles can mean a lot of things at google all the way from a ‘sales engineer selling big query’ to business intelligence analyst making dashboards. Naturally these require different skills. If you contextualize your experience and say how it fits to the role you are targeting that’s a better alignment.

Someone once asked me for a referral, and I provided it to them. They then applied to a role they didn’t qualify for ‘director of engineering of some search vertical.’ And sent me a bunch of messages inquiring about the recruiter and HM. I don’t refer to people I personally don’t know but I’m happy to provide general guidance.

You’re better off adding sourcers on LinkedIn. They do the ‘hunting’ for recruiters so they can really facilitate the process. This applies to most big tech companies.
Understandable, sounds like a bad experience that should not be replicated. Sorry, I feel clueless what are sourcers, fb reached out via LI but that was a recruiter, how do I get on the radar of Google sourcers? Have not really optimized LI yet
