Applying for MBA programs. Do you think it would hurt my chances to tell the adcomm that I got laid off earlier this year? Not sure if I should tell the truth or give another reason.

Does that even come up?? If so, just turn it into a positive. Got laid off like millions of others, like Warren buffet says, don’t let a good crisis go to waste. Want to use this time to reflect and learn and explore my career oops at your school

like

Do not lie. There is a background check after you've been accepted to verify all your dates of employment. If you lie, you will be kicked out.

like

Make it a positive! Got laid off.. here’s what I did with my time!

like

I don’t think there’s a clear textbook answer to this

Be prepared to answer it though when it comes up, you can provide supports to why you were laid off and how you overcame

like

For everyone asking, it can come up in two ways- In my employment history when they ask about reason for leaving, and I also have the chance to mention this in my optional letter. I’m thinking of writing a few lines on how I adapted from the situation in the optional essay.

like

Yeah leave the optional part blank unless you need to explain low gmat or low gpa. Your lay-off is not something to balk at, ppl get laid off all the time. You’d simply talk about what happened as you discuss your employment history. Keep it brief, if you got laid off and opted for school say that. Nbd.

like

Were you laid off because of COVID? If so, then I doubt you’ll be dinged for that

What programs are you applying to?

I’m sorry to hear that you were laid off

That said Covid ain’t no secret to the admission committees. They understand things aren’t normal. As other people have said just be prepared to explain it, be upfront about it, and move right along. Not your fault there’s a global pandemic

Hey Fishes,

Currently I’m looking for an opportunity with Big 3 firms.

Presently working with a Big4 firm.
Yoe : 5 years (before MBA)
Qualification : BE, MBA (tier 1)

I’m having the hardest time finding a new job. I have 12 years of HR experience, a masters in HR, SHRM certification, and all I keep getting are rejection emails. I’ve never experienced this difficult of a time searching for new opportunities. Is this normal once you hit a certain level in your career or is it just me?

Let’s talk about wrongful termination. The other day I was fired in the middle of the day without any warning. My colleagues called me because they were confused on why the Talent Manager dismissed me from the chat. I didn’t know what they were referring to. So I called my PM to ask what was happening, and she said that she just got off the phone with the TM and said they were terminating my contract on the spot due to me speaking up about micromanaging. No explanation just kicked out. Advice?

Hi anyone could help me with saviynt IGA professional certification.. any dumps or tips would be helpful.

I just had the initial call with HR. I was told that Senior Analysts start at 56k and Business Operations Specialists start at 67k. I was told the next step was Junior Manager but they rarely started anyone at that level. I'm shocked. Is that accurate or are they trying to lower my expectations? I have an MBA and an MHA and 20 years military experience.

I am in a tech IC position. One of friends switched to FAANG by converting the profile to consultant profile. The friend who might have less tech knowledge than me is now in FAANG and earning more. If the end goal would be that the friend might one day be a product manager and me an engineering manager taking instructions from the same friend, isn't consultant profile an easier path to growth. I had been practising DSA for years and the competition is only ever growing.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
