Who’s to say your current employer won’t have layoffs? Are you truly that invaluable there? Are you a long-tenured employee?
Maybe the new company is more financially healthy? Would your salary be significantly higher where you can save more in the meantime?
So many variables…

When did the “it’s never good to change jobs during a recession” narrative become so prevalent. I disagree with that entirely. Yes, newer folks are sometimes one of the first to go (although I’d say older, more expensive people tend to go first), but a company that’s hiring typically indicates it’s financially healthy.
Take both jobs lol
Yes, they are. My company just let go of around 20 or so people to right size the company with current sales.
I think the fact that the place you got an offer from is still actively hiring and extending offers is a good sign, no? Why hire just to lay off?
Lots of companies have actually done this. Some have rescinded offers, or delayed start days

What kind of question is this? You think the news about layoffs are fake news?
Not fake news but definitely overblown and purposely conflated with hiring slowdowns. The layoffs have mostly been at poorly run startups who were only surviving because of cheap capital.

Unemployment is 3.6% and the last jobs report shows hiring is red hot.
The data is so clear that any stories of layoffs are either anecdotal or confirmation bias
