As a CISO, I value technical expertise; however, I also value a customer-focused mindset, intellectual curiosity, problem-solving prowess, & the ability to work well with teammates & stakeholders. There are plenty of Bootcamps & courses for technical skills, but none for these critical soft skills that are needed in today’s cybersecurity roles. One thing I did is complete an MBA so I could connect with my business counterparts. How are you working on these skills?

I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US?
