As a women, do you feel that perfection is expected of you but not of your male colleagues?

Yes, but that's a personal issue for me. In other words, I demand more from myself than others (particularly males). I'm also extremely competitive. I can't necessarily say I've had a manager or colleague expect more of me than a male counterpart, but I might not have noticed because I do it to myself anyway.

I am exactly the same way and I work such long days that I wind up with adrenal fatigue (according to my dr) I need to strike a healthier balance but I am new to my role and between learning and wanting to get many points of view, things take longer than in the role that I was comfortable in!

I used to feel that way, until recently. Not that this doesn't happen still, because it absolutely does, but because I've been working on my own perfectionism toward myself.

I find that people expect me to be perfect because that's what I strive for. And when I do something that's slightly imperfect it's more noticeable.

Yup. I feel like I have to work more and earn my colleagues' respect. There's just not much room for slacking and being complacent as compared to my male colleagues.

I hate working on commission. I am a naturally shy person and approaching guests in our store is intimidating enough, it's even worse when some of my more socially savvy coworkers notice me trying to strike up a conversation with someone and they come in and literally steal my client from me.

I need some advice. I have some co workers that are really disgruntled and complain about their jobs a lot to me. It really bring me down and makes it hard for me to work because I get constant messages about how much they hate it here. I’m friends with them outside of work so I don’t want to explode on them. What do you recommend I do/say to them? I want our friendship to last but I can’t stand how they talk right now. And honestly some of their bitching is valid but some isn’t imo.

Hello, I have a question that needs your inputs how to handle. I am working with a post-MBA Associate on a project and this person seems to do extra work beyond what the team is asking the rest of us to do. I think during our conversations with the leadership, there were a couple of points that were brought up by the MD but that was not a concrete directive that we need to do because if it is, I would know about it from the chain email since I am staffed to the project.

I’m working at a small firm that is more like a one-stop shop. We’ve had instances where a client of ours have asked for a deliverable that is outside of our expertise and that we need specialists for. However, the relationship partner (is that what they’re called) for some reason wants everything to go through them rather than having the specialists directly engage with the client. Is there some legal/ethical reason for this? Or is this just an act to protect their turf?

I’m a young(ish) male running a private practice. Been with the group a year and a half and haven’t exactly gelled with some of the older employees. We’ve made tremendous financial improvements but in a meeting last night one of the physicians stated, in front of me, maybe we shouldn’t have hired a young guy to run the practice….I can’t think of a more passive aggressive way to ask someone to leave. Thoughts?

Transactional junior here. I want to remain having a semblance of a life outside work and partake in happy hours but always feel like it’s hard to do. What do you tell partners who send you back comments or want something from you when you’re out at happy hour? What do you say to to limit their expectations that you’ll be able to provide the document that night?
