Is it a stretch? Depends on what you mean by stretch… it’s definitely possible. But the price you have to pay to do it, that may not be what you want. My experience in consulting has taught me one thing. If you want to be successful, you normally have to sacrifice a lot.
It can be done. I came from industry (senior management position) to consultant at 38. I am M now been averaging a promo ever two years. (42 now)
M-SM won’t be hard as most of my feedback has been that I have been operating close to that level since SC.
C was the hardest for me as there was a steep learning curve. But the more advanced stuff came naturally as I have the maturity and understand client needs.
If you can make it through the first 3-4 years, find a niche where you can grow the business, and not hate life you will be able to make PPMD. Probably within 10 years, no problem.
Agree.
I am at a boutique. Plenty of former colleagues that went to MBB and made partner there. This includes people over 40
I joined B4 at 42 from a senior leadership role in industry. I haven’t made Partner but as a director I am financially compensated at an MD level (I moved around countries) so not in the same place for the entire time. You have to want to hustle and sell and it is doable. I prefer delivery vs selling. I would suggest that you Figure out what drives you so you can enjoy the job vs the title and $. Good luck.
I came in as a Manager from being a Director in Industry, was late 30's. Made Partner in 4.5 years. It is possible but not easy. Good luck, and believe in yourself, if you don't, no one else will.
Uhmmm….this isn’t Big4 is it? Because that might not be possible at your age. MD sure…but not equity partner.
It’s very doable. In B4, depending on where you go, the retirement plan vests in 10 years and maxs out after 20 or so. Main questions are 1) do you have it in you to hustle now for 10 years minimum? 2) have you considered senior industry roles? They might comp total amounts that are very close, but are based on other components like RSU’s, cash bonuses etc…
