As the only black person on my immediate and extended work team, I can’t help but find some irony in the fact that I’m grinding nights and this weekend to cover my white colleagues (8 +) who took PTO this and next week to extend the Juneteenth company office closure on Mon. I can only hope they’re taking some time to commemorate appropriately with thoughtful reflection in observation of Juneteenth.

My firm’s holiday party is on a weekday after work. I can just wear what I’d normally wear to work for that day, right?

I work in a sucky IBM cic, making $54k. It’s a full time job with regular benefits and vacation etc, it’s working with government clients. The job isn’t what I applied for & constantly changes. I don’t like that, but I’m a full time employee which is “stable employment”. Btw, I’m in the DC area.

I just got hired for a government contract through Accenture for a Business Analyst role. Pay is $65 per hour. 3 year contract. Benefits too. No PTO. Holidays off with pay, after 90 days.

What holiday party did you get?
Anyone living close to an office, got a holiday party with food and drinks, and the venue started open for them until around midnight. Our remote workers got a one hour party w a DJ and trivia that let you win gift cards. Yeah it was nice to win a gift card but I found it lame in comparison to hanging out with my team in real life.

As I am from the industry and haven't heard about this company before, I would like some comments or thoughts about working for this company? Anyone familiar with Covid Supplemental Paid Sick Leave in CA? Does having planned time off nullify a full time employee’s ability to use the C19 sick leave if they become sick just prior to the planned time off? (I’ve only been able to find references to eligibility being based off of hours work preceding C19 sick leave - nothing about planned time off)

The firm I work for is not closing for the hurricane. Staff were told to work from home or take PTO if they could not come in to the office (and the building is now closed until Friday). Is this normal?!
