My brother, put in your 2 weeks
A jump into PL is a hard landing, full-stop. Always easier to come in as a C2 at BCG, wrap your head around it, then over perform as a C2 into a PL.
PL is the most difficult level because you're squeezed on both ends (upwards and downwards) and there's a lot less forgiveness case-to-case.
I'd tread carefully here @OP. I understand if you're not enjoying your time at Mck, but just curious what is it that you're not enjoying and how do know for certain those dynamics wouldn't exist at BCG?
Would you be able to get promoted to pl with average c2 performance?
Congratulations 🎉👏
I’d say do it. Two reasons: 1) take BCG as your last try at consulting. If your BCG experience turns out to be no different then you can say a final goodbye to consulting; 2) you are getting a promotion! And BCG has been hiring a lot of lateral PLs which means we are getting more and more experienced with integrating PLs. It’ll be tough but tons of folks already proofed it’d work. So why not?
Pros: You haven't been enjoying your current position, so could be time for a change up.
Cons: Similar salary for (possibly) more responsibility. General unpredictability of getting a new job.
I say go for it, nothing would be worse than turning down a good job to remain where you aren't happy.
Agree. Start over if you’re not enjoying it. BUT FIRST …examine if you like consulting and just need a different environment. If yes, BCG makes sense. If it’s consulting you’re not enjoying …then think harder. (Ex McK here).
OP — consider whether a sector switch WITHIN McK would serve you better than jumping to a different firm / serving same sector. The first study I did at McK was HELLA broey— I switched sectors that I serve and have had a dramatically better (and more diverse) experience since
Hey there, can you share why haven't you enjoyed you work at McK?
Thanks.
What’s the difference between the industry focused tracks and regular PL roles? Curious

Don’t do it. The PL role here is notoriously difficult and if you’re not getting a salary bump it just really doesn’t seem worth it IMO. If you’re planning to leave anyways I’d focus on exiting consulting altogether. You’ll receive similar offers as a tenured A at McK and a brand new PL at BCG.
