I have received offer from Shell and SAP labs is in final stage salary discussion. Shell is offering 6 lacs more than @SAP labs. I have tried to negotiate a lot from SAP but they are not ready. They are putting conditions like give your full commitment to join then only we'll release offer letter. I am currently looking for work life balance with growth. Should I join @SAP considering its a Product based and good WLB and learning? Teck Stack - Java/Micro-services/cloud YOE - 11yrs

35.
I don’t think there’s any such thing as too young/old.
There are people who might be on the younger side of 35 when they make SM, likely due to being homegrown consultants.
In my case, I joined from industry and had to work my way up from Senior Consultant.
It depends on when you joined the B4. If you joined at 22, you could become one at 28-29. SM promos are like clockwork. Fastest vs the slowest is not going to be more than 2-3 years, again when and at what position you started at B4.
Manager 5 - Can you share your math on Partner breakeven calc? I’m relatively new to consulting, so the whole Partner track is still a little confusing.

Looks like I’m on track to make the level before partner at 37. Not all of my previous experience was in consulting tho. Started as a C at 27.
There’s no such thing as on track in this market. I have heard this exact line numerous times from “high performers”. More than half aren’t in consulting anymore. And the rest of them aren’t close to “being on track”. Careers aren’t perfectly linear for almost 95% of people.

30 now. Making SM this year.
42 , so some oldies on here 😊
29. I’m 33 now and still SM level. I think 29 is fairly common and the point of not being too young. I know some who have made MD by 30!

I’m 24 year old staff 1 and been at the firm less than a year. Is SM at 35 still reasonable/possible?
Yes, absolutely. Work hard, though 11 years is on the higher end for making to SM.

I made it last year at 28
Never - I skipped over that level.
Real question is how many of you are going to get laid off this year? Much different market than it has been for several years. Firms can’t keep promoting people to SM when there is a limited work. Might also want to be a thinking other options for not being promotoed or potentially be laid off.

29, female, what US would call “minority”. Giving the background just to set context.
Lost a year in service line jumps. Key things were - Right projects, right sponsorship - almost all of my work is directly market making or delivering projects in a new area and being very straightforward / authentic in trying to get guidance / mentorship from senior leaders who are more than happy to support me and help in my career development. Has taken a toll on my health between 25-27 so from that point onwards been a little careful in terms of managing personally set “high expectations”. having said that 100 percent think that it pays off getting to SM early and then using 4-5 years shadowing a acting partner role so that you de-risk execution and can perform as a partner when you get there. I was totally in a hurry to get to partnership , but realizing that’s not how it works.
Think one should focus on right experiences and absolutely push envelope there - the right promos will come to you at the right time.
Now this is what I call active career management!
