Depends COL and living standards. You won't get much agreement from fish here because most are out of touch and think 200k is minimum wage

Ok but the post said single people. And I live in NYC.
If you want to “live a fantastic life” , money threshold should not be goal. Fantastic life should have goals related to life.
That 200 K will become 400 K which will become 1 mil in a forever loop , if you keep equating quality of life to money you earn.
Specially as a single person
We all made a lot less - during our earlier years. Take the extra money & invest in stocks & real estate. Eventually you won't need to work. Eventually...
So how much a month? Do people earn in rent & dividends... How long until you won't need to work?
Wait until you have 3 kids in nyc and a spouse who decides they now want to stay home and come back to this thread
Wh is dumb enough to have 3 kids in NY ... lol...

Totally depends on your circumstances, especially location. In NY, LA, SF— sadly 200k doesn’t get you far as a single person. Another factor is things like student loans or other financial commitments.

Ok, so you agree. In the context of the question asked your answer is absurd.
In Miami, single. I’m at 200k + and I’d say this is comfortable. I’m always gonna want more but financially, no stress at all right now.
How unusual? Uber goes most places. The only transporting heavy stuff I can think of is when I move, in which I would hire a mover for.
Depends on one's own definition of "set for life." For many $200k a year will still leave room for wanting a bigger/nicer house, newer car, one more vacation each year, more luxurious vacations, etc.
"Set for life" is a function of living within one's means, it's not dependent on a particular minimum salary.
Depends on so many factors
No concerns
I agree if the person is single and has no responsibility. Add kids or an elderly parent that needs full time nursing care and your expenses go out the window.
What’s the average age of this chat because I need to be on this level lol
Make what you may, if your wants and needs shrink, mind you not your needs for a shrink 🥹 then you will be fine. This means having no need to compare yourself with anyone. Being single is awesome especially you can entirely skip the companion’s drama. But yours might be running full throttle on IMAX and Dolby. If that’s not the case you can be the king of the world. Just meditate, enjoy your existence… DM me if you need anything!

It’s going to be completely dependent on where you live. Like do you live in NYC or do you live in Wyoming?
The question you should be asking yourself is how much do I need to save vs how much you earn. E.g. you need about $2m in savings to live off $100k annual salary in retirement.
$350 was it. Enough to not think about money anymore, either short or long term
200k in NJ, luckily its my move out of consulting and actively applying now. Cant wait to coast for the next few years.
425k
Have you ever driven a $180k Porsche 911 GT3? It will bring happiness to each trip you take.
Just a thought, my 2c when thinking about total comp and budget. Toys definitely can be fun and can add much joy and happiness, but you need to consider the trade off and WLB you may forgo to pump your TC over the 200k mentioned.
Agreed, I feel I need about a quarter mil at least
$200K being retired, no mortgage and no car payments is perfect right now!
200k is nothing if you want to live well and raise a family.

Depends on what you want out of life.
You could be very happy and ‘set for life’ making 50k.
You could be massively in debt, broke and miserable making $1million.
All about your attitude and expectations.
