Been at EY 1.5 years now doing tech/data consulting. Was reached out to by a recruiter for a Portfolio Management Analyst position at large pe/asset management fund (think apollo, blackstone, kkr) within Real Estate division. Thoughts on making the jump?

You’ll be doing more excel type work less tech skill sets. Maybe some sql pulls if you need something. Lots of reporting.
Def no, if you want to go into tech.
I’d say just apply to tech roles!!
If it helps with perspective I was reached out to by a recruiter at a partner consulting firm to do the exact same job I’m doing now but with them. Currently TC is 95k was offered around 130 and would’ve been working maybe 15-20 more hours a week with not as good benefits but also 100% remote and I turned it down..
How’s this an helpful perspective other than the fact you didn’t jump for higher salary
If the role involves intersection of finance and tech, with potential to be an RE portfolio manager down the line, you’ll likely have an easier life and more money than tech.
RE guys are also close-knit and make informed investments on the side. An acquaintance is in RE primary cap markets, is 32 and close to retiring.
I do have a large interest in RE but always viewed it as more of a side passion, never thought of working it at the corporate level. Interviewers of course preach the idea of automating things, but did make it clear that its a reporting role and would be a lot of excel work. I have a background in data analytics and personally hate excel, would do it if i need to but definitely more interested in using python/other code. Also the team works at the portfolio level rather then the asset level so I wouldnt be involved in any work regarding picking assets. Dont think it would ever really lead into a role of being a portfolio manager.
Dude yes. REPE way more lucrative long term
