I’ve been laid off 4 times, all in like a year and a half...starting my career- unstable jobs, start ups, and poor fits. It’s okay you’ll find work. Nothing is wrong with you!
@Senior Copywriter I don’t think it’s so black and white. I’ve seen an amazing creative director get let go. And the more you earn the higher the chance of getting let go.
5 times in 6 yrs. I’m still digging my way out of debt from that string of layoffs. I might also add I moved states for each one of those jobs and broke 5 leases in a row to relocate. It was a dark time.
Been laid off 6 times. It doesn't matter how many times. What matters is whether you find the petfect environment to shine and contribute to the organization. You got this
AD1, how did you bounce back from that?? Finding myself in a similar position and beginning to really feel unsure of my skills. Feel like I did alright as a jr, but suck at being anything I’ve worked as above that, and have been having a rocky freelance record so far.
I think it depends on the reasons for being laid off. If you got laid off because a client you worked for left, that doesn't really have anything to do with you. If you were let go because of something like "poor fit" that's greater cause for concern. I've been laid off three times in 9 years. First time was during the recession in 2010 when I was at my first fulltime job after college because the other guy I worked with who handled the more technical aspects of the job quit and they said they needed someone in my position with more of the technical knowledge he had since he wasn't there any longer. Second time was 6 months later after they realized they didn't have enough consistent work to justify having someone in that role fulltime and that they should have made the role a short term freelance gig instead of fulltime in the first place. Most recent time was a few months ago, client left the agency and my boss told me in the HR meeting where I was being laid off that it had nothing to do with my performance and that they tried to keep me on, but there just wasn't anywhere they could put me at the time. Also, if you're getting laid off because you're always the person who has been there the least amount of time, that's not something to sweat either.
O2 disagree. Often those that have been through multiple layoffs also have suffered discrimination. I know several women that have had multiple NDAed lay-off with payouts to keep quiet because they were discriminated against, witnessed discrimination for age, gender, race, and reported it.
I think you should get feedback from colleagues honestly since it would suggest you may need to assess behaviour, skills, company match etc

Sr.CW2 we are learning all the time! I’m not thrilled at my current agency. But I do try to bring a high level of energy everyday. I ask for work and I love interviews. I do a lot of research beforehand and I’m always really excited to meet with folks! It’s okay! I feel like there are always jobs! It will work out!
If you are let go repeatedly, something is amiss. Happening once even twice could be nothing to worry about
I haven’t yet, but I’m trying to mentally prepare for it as I know it happens to everyone at some point. Not the right fit for the job and culture, bad manager, last person in first person out philosophy, loss of business or change in needs: don’t beat yourself up about it. But as previously mentioned, maybe reach out to old colleagues and ask for feedback. No one’s perfect. We can all get better.
