Best tried-and-true Microsoft collaboration tools for cross-functional teams?

My company is tied to Microsoft. As much as I loved Airtable at my previous job, it's a no-go here. I'm currently looking at Lists, Whiteboard and Project. Any tried-and-true tools that have worked for cross-functional teams that are able to: assign tasks via Address Book, track progress, take notes, etc.
