So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo. A book to help non-blacks gain a basic understanding of what impacts minorities on a micro and macro scale and the tools to help have converse about these topics at different levels appropriately.

like

The Odyssey: The tale of a man who refuses to ask for directions. The Hobbit: Neat freak is pressured into a life of crime. Moby Dick: A crippled sea captain refuses to learn from his mistakes. The Lord of the Rings: A group of old men overcome racial differences to take on the world’s most powerful jeweler. (Probably the most relevant in these times) The Scarlet Pimpernel: All of France is fooled by terrible disguises and thinly-veiled poetry. Ender's Game: 8-year-old commits genocide. *I claim no credit for the summaries

"American Poison" - the author does a great job of explaining how race hostility is negative sum game and policies of the past designed to exclude minorities end up hurting white America as well (albeit to a smaller extend)

I’m reading American Prison, I’m not trying to be political, the book just provides a better history behind American privatized prison system

Would you say summaries are as effective for self help books like "the subtle art of giving a fk" and other similar books? I feel the books themselves ramble on too much on a side story only to tell a point that could be summed up in a couple sentences. Or am I just not getting good book recommendations for growth/development on mental well being and productivity

Building off a thread from a few days ago on how long you waited to consultant an RE. If I am under 35 and have not been trying for 12 months, do I need to spin it to my doctor like I have? It seems bad to not give my doc the real info but I also don’t want to be turned away and I think I’ve heard you have to tell them it’s been 12 mo to get insurance to cover it. Any insight?

Am I good enough to join MBB? I am a degree apprentice for a big 4 consultancy, with 1 day off for study (management degree with the Open University). Once I complete my degree, I hope to join either McKinsey, Bain or BCG as a generalist. I will have 4YE working as a (non-strat) analyst. As I see it, my greatest obstacle will be getting an interview given my lack of a prestigious education/good upbringing. Grateful for any insights on how I can maximise my chances/if I have a chance at all.

I went through a pretty rigorous interview process for a marketing project manager but ultimately wasn't given job. Though most of the feedback was positive, the other candidate had more direct experience with the job responsibilities (digital assets, social media, etc.) My job/company dabbles in digital but it's primarily traditional media. How do I again the experience if I'm limited by the type of work we do?

Advice needed! I was laid off in Jan and since then I’ve been building my own practice (which I started last year and was doing on the side). Since Covid happened, work has been a lot slower so I started applying for jobs. I got two job offers in these past couple weeks, but the problem is that neither is in the area I want to practice, though the experience from one of them would be probably useful in the future. Ultimately I want to have my own practice, but my dilemma is that as a 3rd (cont.)

Hi. I have a question. In a world where COVID is under control, how would you feel if your companies went back to being fully in the office? But maybe others were adopting a hybrid model- some days remote, some days in the office. Would it make you want to work elsewhere? How important is being able to work remote (at a location of your choice, not at client /travelling) a few days a week to your job satisfaction?
