I have been reading a few articles talking about how FAANG isn’t as lavish as it used to be. My first question is if that is true? If it is true, my second question is what companies out there have the pay, benefits, and perks like FAANG? My last question is if it is as difficult to get into those companies? Yup, focus on yourself. Besides it’s hard to predict timing of either one - job offer or pregnancy. If you’re far along in your pregnancy when you get an offer, you can negotiate maternity leave. If you’re not far enough along to comfortably disclose, you can ask generally about policies and see what the company offer. Reminder: the “one year until you’re eligible” thing is completely arbitrary, and the company can just choose to give you the same leave as someone who has been there a little longer. There’s no law preventing that.
I wanted to update you all that I took your advice, interviewed, got an OFFER (yay!) and found out I won’t even have to negotiate because they don’t force moms to wait a year before they qualify for mat leave. Thank you ALL for your support! ✨✨✨
Yes!!!! So happy for you!
I started my job at 20 weeks pregnant and still got FMLA. Totally interview!
Also I told them when I accepted the job. I was prepared to not get any paid leave but I actually got STD, not just FMLA.
Negotiate for it!!
I negotiated for half the mat leave benefits when I came in under the 1 year mark. Better than nothing.

YES. You never know how long it will take to conceive. Plus you can negotiate anything.
Glad to read you will keep on pursuing both things. And SO Frustrated on the reasons why do we have to stop and think twice about it. Men do not do that. Nobody should have to!
Can we be clear that you can always interview?
Yeah but you cannot negotiate anything unless you go on an interview. Why close a door before even trying to open it?
I’m so relieved to hear all this! I really thought I’d have to stick it out another 2 years.
All of the above. And, you could also use a new job as leverage at the current place.
