TL;DR: Invest in low cost index funds / target date funds and don't bother with individual stocks/sectoral bets unless it's just for fun and a small part of your portfolio.

Do the Jason Zweig (WSJ Writer for 30 years) philosophy of the 90/10 invest 90% in index/low cost mutual funds and 10% on high risk bets, then if you completely FUBAR the 10% you are 90% of the way to your goals. If you invest the 10% into the next Bitcoin or Tesla you can retire early.
