I’ve done a bunch. Worst case: You have live feed to camera on VLC or Qtake or some other platform. Meanwhile you’re on a Teams call with the client, agency and producers as video village. You’re also on a separate zoom with the director and line producer. And you’re on another zoom with the stills photographer. Sometimes you can eliminate the director only zoom depending on your relationship with the client. Sometimes it’s all done via zoom even the camera feed. Depends on the prod co. Giving feedback is hard. Some people don’t speak up or go missing with camera off. Def take the lead and stay engaged. Company moves are great because everyone signs off for a bit. Treat yourself to Uber eats to get that crafty feel. Pre-pro is hard. Everything takes longer. So def schedule lots of check ins for set, wardrobe, casting approvals, etc. It’s a pain in the ass the but the ole pre-pre pro is now the pre-pre-pre-pre-pro, though it does help for a smoother shoot day.
Thank you, I think that covers all questions they might ask me in the next round. Thx for being patient with my detail oriented questions, really appreciate the help!
It’s the same... communication between teams is harder. You are paying attention to too many screens. Requires the team to be more buttoned up, and streamline all COMMS.
Have a clear and simple chain of command.
Yes just very hard to imagine doing shootings remotely. Thanks for sharing, I will have a think of how to communication with the team.
After a couple remote shoots (where creatives and director are in different places), biggest learning is to make sure the director is mic’d so you can hear their direction to talent.
I’ve found it easier. Everything gets ok’d faster and everyone can instantly communicate because you’re in the same “room.” Relax and have fun.
I've had good ones and bad ones. Had one where it was in Europe and we all had to be on a Teams call starting at 2am - noon. Brutal. Have one tomorrow that shouldn't be bad at all.
