100% safe as well. Don’t do anything stupid and you will be fine. COL is great for the amount of city benefits you get (good transit, food, culture, lakefront trail, etc). And housing is not too expensive so you can likely live in a very desirable neighborhood in a decent quality place

Chicago is the greatest place on earth minus the weather. Live in good areas and don’t walk around at 1am by yourself and you’ll be fine. Lots of wonderful people live here

And I’d even venture to say that really, every season except Winter in Chicago is beautiful! Lived there for 5 years and miss the summers a lot!

Safe in any office but McKinsey’s.

Husband and I lived downtown for 10 years up until a few months ago. We have 2 under 2 and there are some things that we just weren’t willing to put up with anymore. It was absolutely wonderful pre-pandemic, but unfortunately a lot has change since.

Yes it’s fine, unless you live in extremely economically challenged areas.

We’d love to have you, but if you don’t feel safe, best keep it moving... Lower demand means lower prices on condos downtown. I have my eye on a few. Good luck to you!

100% safe as well, main tip is avoid trains after dark unfortunately and be aware of your surroundings but that really goes for anywhere

Any reason you're picking Chicago? The city and state are both bankrupt and the effects are now showing. Unless you have a compelling reason to go there I'd pick a place that's growing

like

Pick an office based on where you want to live and what industries you want to work in, not because it’s “easier” to get into. It’s not. The bar is the same everywhere, but hiring needs may be different so I can understand based on where there is more drive for new people. We can see right through when you aren’t committed to living here.

Yes, moved here a year ago and feel 100% safe. I just avoid certain areas and even feel safe walking alone in my neighborhood at night.

Hi Fishes,

I have given my interview in HCL and cleared 1 TP, 1 hcl manager & Client TP and Client Manager rounds .
In initial screening HR told the generic statement of 30-40% and I have given my ask as 50% minimum. After clearing the rounds I heard from the project team that Client has given great feedback and wanted to take me in .
What is the % I can ask in HR Discussion and will they reject in HR if I ask more now .
I have 9.5 years total experience and role is Storage Architect.
Thanks
