Say, “I was hoping to land somewhere in the $190K-195K range.” And they’ll either give you the money or negotiate down from there.
My old CD always said add 20k to where you want to land. It always feels terrifying to me but is solid advice.
“I am comfortable with the salary range provided.”

I don’t know where you live but it’s illegal for companies to ask your current comp in certain cities/states so try not to divulge your current salary if you can avoid it.
I guess my question is what are you looking for to make a move? If this would be a lateral move for you, I’d ask for the upper end of the budget, if this would be a promotion into the level, then you’re going to probably come in at the lower end of the band.
Here’s my standard reply: “I’ll need to know more details about the role from the hiring manager before I can answer that. However, I will accept a competitive offer.” The minute you answer that question, you’ve basically played your hand and have no leverage. Make them make the first move so you can counteroffer higher.
Figure out how much money you want/deserve, then add 10k. Ask for that.
“Depending on how the compensation package is put together, the $175k to $195k range that was listed for this role aligns with my expectations for my next role.”
If they ask you for more specifics, then ask how their compensation is built. Salary vs bonus vs RSU’s, and ask for details on their benefits package. A 100% employee paid benefit package is worth a $10k discount in salary IMO. Other details may adjust what you’re willing to take. But the entire package matters, not just the salary number.
